Race Report Round 1 NITTO/3K Races May 4th-6th 2012
We made it through Round 1 of the Nitto/3K on the May 4th to 6th races at www.bira.co.th this past weekend. The 2012 Schedule can be seen at www.bobbybrooksracing.com
Although I have been an instructor for Porsche and an American Indy Car™ Team Owner and Director that did not include a full time ride. I was merely organizing the events and team with sponsors and mostly behind the scenes, trying to get additional sponsors for the team and series so race day was actually my day to relax.
But this is my first time back in the pilot’s seat of a fully prepped Racing Car after being crowned the SCCA champion in 1993 nearly 20 years ago and it was quite an experience, below is how we ended up.
RESULTS FROM ROUND 1 NITTO/3K SERIES 4-6 MAY 2012 AT BIRA RACING CIRCUIT PATTAYA
FRIDAY PRACTICE: 4TH of May, Nice day to start the weekend off, no rain, car was good, I went out to practice on intermediate tires (somewhere between a racing slick and a rain tire) the car was loose (means the back end of the race car trying to jump out) but I chalked it up to my inexperience with the tires and track after 20 years, session went well we set good times, about mid pack of my race groups.
SATURDAY QUALIFYING: 5TH OF May, Saturday morning for qualifying we set the 11th fastest time with a semi wet track, and on the last hot lap the skies poured down with rain and I spun tapped the left rear into the wall, so we missed the F9 qualifying session. The Crew made the repairs and we were able to start both races F5 and F9 Open Turbo on Saturday afternoon in the rain our finishing position set the grid for Sundays 2 races
SUNDAY RACES: 6TH OF MAY, we started in 13th for Category F5 and finished 5th. For me fortunately the track started to dry out so could place in the race. In the Open Turbo Class with slicks we started 17th and finished in the top 10.
